Sports and Recreation
Physical activity and sports are an important aspect of the Mount Bachelor Academy personal growth curriculum. We believe that physical activity facilitates in the detoxification process for students who have a history of drug and/or alcohol use. Physical exercise and team sports also assist students in developing their self-esteem and a positive self-image.
When students first enroll and enter Discovery Phase (Phase I), they do daily physical training each morning as well as hiking and adventure exercises at their ropes course. All students have access to a fitness room with weight equipment, a volleyball court, as well as a pool in the summer months, and outdoor basketball each evening. Physical education classes are offered as part of the elective class curriculum. Aerobics, running, weight training, and dance intensives are all class choices.
In addition, there is an organized extra-curricular sports program at MBA: The Mount Bachelor Academy Bears (boys and girls) play basketball with other small schools in Central Oregon; boys and girls participate in Central Oregon soccer with other high schools; girls volleyball and boys and girls cross country are also sports options.
