At Mount Bachelor Academy, the academic challenges are tough; the emotional challenges are real.
Mount Bachelor Academy was founded in 1988 as a community of caring professionals dedicated to helping adolescents achieve the highest levels of personal and intellectual development. We believe that many young people who are at risk of failing in school or succumbing to dangerous behaviors are actually our nation's most promising. They deserve an educational setting that integrates personal and academic growth to provide a total learning experience.
Upon enrollment, each student is tested for placement in an accredited curriculum in which science, math, humanities, social sciences, and a host of other subjects are integrated into a comprehensive whole. Our teaching faculty is committed to their mission of "rekindling the passion for learning" in each student. To that end, a variety of teaching techniques are used in every subject to capture the student's interest and prepare him or her for the demands of higher education. College preparatory and standard diplomas are offered.
Concurrent with their academic growth, students embark on an emotional growth curriculum from which they gain self-esteem and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to make appropriate choices. Students at Mount Bachelor Academy are encouraged to challenge themselves and each other to attain personal growth goals.
They meet two to three times per week in small communications skills sessions where, under the careful guidance of adult facilitators, they speak openly about interpersonal difficulties, behaviors, and patterns. Each student is part of a supportive peer group of approximately ten to fifteen students who participate in a fourteen to sixteen month curriculum comprised of six intensive values clarification workshops, called Lifesteps®, four academic seminars, four achievement seminars, three drug and alcohol workshops and special gender workshops for boys and girls.
Mount Bachelor offers a comprehensive drug and alcohol education program for students with substance history and all parents participate in the program for the families.
